Just like wine, coffee has its own vocabulary, techniques and tasting rituals. Nevertheless, it does not yet enjoy the same prestige as wine. Having ascertained this, Malongo decided to invest its efforts in raising coffee to the same level of recognition as wine.
This is how the idea of coffee lessons came about.
These lessons offer an introduction to the world of coffee through an overview of the economic and quality aspects of coffee, as well as an organoleptic exploration of the beverage.
The service is free for schools (hotel schools, schools of commerce, engineering schools…) but it is also open to the general public and firms in the hotel sector (for a charge). Training is also given to planters.
Prior to dispensing lessons, the department does research on the history of coffee, producer countries, botanical varieties, coffee and health and it keeps up to date with current affairs (the market, agronomy research).
A library and a future museum (which will house the most handsome collection of coffee grinders in the world), a book entitled “A passion for coffee”, a practical encyclopaedia on CD-rom, a newsletter “the Coffee Journal”, and an association “The Art of Coffee Circle” also bear witness to Malongo’s commitment to defending and broadening people’s knowledge of coffee.
