Kofi Annan raised the idea of the Global Compact on January 31st 1999 and the operational phase of the Pact was launched at the United Nations headquarters on July 26th 2000.
- This international initiative brings together companies and organisations within the United Nations, the working world and society as a whole around ten universal principles relating to human rights, working standards and environmental considerations.
- In France, 490 firms are committed to the Global Compact including a host of small and medium enterprises, in particular under the leadership of the Carrefour Group, ACCOR, Galeries Lafayette, Monoprix, Coface and Heimburger are also among these firms. (http://www.idep.asso.fr/)
- By adhering to the World Pact, Malongo confirmed its intention to ensure its actions respect human dignity, labour laws and the environment.
Through this Pact, Malongo wishes to contribute to improve living conditions for thousands of people who earn a living from coffee, as well as sharing its experience of southern countries. For the company, this is an opportunity to extend its actions and thoughts, which have – for more than twenty years now – integrated respect for the environment, for human rights and labour standards.
