A commitment
Towards the end of the 1980s, Malongo made a promise to Father Van Der Hoff (founder of the Max Havelaar seal of approval) to support small coffee growers. Since then, this promise has taken on different shapes: the launch of pre-dosed ground coffee, advertising campaigns, organising lectures and symposia.
Malongo’s intention is therefore to offer an ever-increasing range of products and to contribute to improving knowledge of this new economic model. |

The principles of Fair Trade
The bases for exchange includes long-term contracts, guaranteed minimum prices to escape the uncertainties of fluctuating world markets, pre-financing harvests and a short commercialisation chain to avoid having too many intermediaries.
Malongo applies these principles to its relations with several small plantations in Mexico, Guatemala and Haiti in particular. |

Action and reflection
Malongo has signed the World Pact, a movement founded in 1999 by Kofi Annan on the basis of nine universal principles relating to human rights, working standards and the environment. Moreover, Malongo continues to provide aid in Haiti by continuing the promotion of coffee cultivation it started in 1999. Finally, Malongo has already organised three conferences on fair trade, in which Father Van der Hoff took part along with the Ministers Corinne Lepage, Christian Jacob and François Loos. |
